Bettanini è riduttivo parlare solo di "voce": la declinazione
singolare del termine mal si adatta infatti alla realtà polimorfica
che la voce di questa artista sa sprigionare. Il suo percorso sonoro sancisce
una riscoperta della pluralità delle "voci di dentro" che
intuiamo di avere, ma non sappiamo più evocare; c'è il panico
e la gioia estatica, il terrore e l'incanto. E c'è una padronanza
serena e consapevole del fatto che culture anche lontanissime hanno trovato
risposte diverse al modo di far risuonare nello scintillio della voce l'emozione.
Nelle diverse tracce di The Fragrance si ritrovano quindi la lezione della
scuola afroamericana del canto e quella delle avanguardie europee, le scuole
d'Oriente e dell'estremo nord: un lavoro che si potrebbe definire una sorta
di prisma sonoro che in ogni direzione riverbera frammenti di un nuovo "paesaggio
