| "...Mariangela Bettanini has been exploring the question
of art as an instrument of discovery, and not as a reassuring mirror, since
the tender age of 15 when she started to experiment with the great potential
of her voice for the first time.." | | Marco
Maiocco | Prayan Mariangela

years. She has sung traditional Italian music, Brazilian music, American
folk and pop, rock, rhythm 'n' blues, soul, gospels and spirituals, songs

arrived at jazz.
From '60 to'75 With
three brothers a lot older than her, a father who loved Opera and classical
music and a mother who sang along to the radio in the kitchen, as a child
of the Sixties, she listened to music almost all day long. |

| | |

| Depending on the time of day she listened
to the Beatles, the Rolling Stones
.Bob Dylan, Joan Baez
a radio
programme called "Bandiera Gialla" or the songs of Luigi Tenco
and Gino Paoli
Then there was Paul Anka or Modugno

..! From the ages of 10 to 15 she took private lessons in classical
piano. |
| |
From '75 to '91 |
|
| At
the age of 15, she started to teach herself to play the guitar and sing,
following her natural talent, later perfecting her studies with Giorgio
Gaber's guitarist: Gianni Martini. She took part in various musical events
in her city, in various singer-songwriters' groups, with songs on the female
condition and Italian folk songs. |
| She
finished classical high school and decided to become a professional singer.
| |
|
|
At 22 she went on tour with Ombretta Colli in the musical theatre show
"Marilyn", directed by Giorgio Gaber. In
1983, as a private student prepared by Maestro Bettini, she obtained her
Compimento Inferiore for the Diploma of Classical Singing at the N. Paganini
Conservatory in Genova. | In
'84 she formed "Bettamax", a melodic rock group which played together
up until '90.
| | | |

|
Backing vocals for "Il pane e le rose"
by Angelo Branduardi. In '87 she recorded the single "Facile"
with Giampiero Alloisio and other musicians from Genoa, including Danilo
Madonia and Andrea Braido. |
She
went on a live tour, in Europe and Russia, with Sabrina Salerno in' 89 and
'90. Television advertising and backing vocals in several of her records.
From '92 to 2000
In 1992 she got more and more into Afro-American music and put together
a Rhythm 'n' Blues group: "Bettabop". In '93 she started
studying be-bop and vocal improvisation with Marco Tindiglia. She sang
in the "Steps", trio with Lauro Ferrarini and Adriano Mondini,
whose original repertoire of interweaving acoustic tones was somewhere between
jazz, pop and a Latin resonance. At this time she approached Hatha Yoga,
discovering the benefits offered by relaxation and posture techniques. With
the Pranayama she worked further on breathing and energy control, gradually
coming to realise that body, mind and psyche make up the total of the singer's
instrument and are inextricably linked. From
'93 to '98 she lived on the Cote d'Azur in France, singing in the main hotels
and clubs of the French Riviera broadening her musical culture substantially
and building up an international repertoire from the multiple facets of
different musical genres and vocal styles. 1995
in Rueil Malmaison she met Louis-Jacques Rondeleux who co-founded the Centre
Pluridisciplinaire (Mudra) along with the dancer and choreographer Maurice
Béjart. She studied classical singing privately with him for
3 years and translated his book "Trouver sa Voix"(1974). In
'98 she formed a duo with Enrico Pinna in Genova. Their repertoire included
soul, jazz and rhythm 'n' blues.
From 2000 to the present

| In 2000 she set up
the "Centro della Voce"(the centre of the Voice) in Genova
(www.ilcentrodellavoce.com),
where vocal studies are considered both as a road towards professional and
artistic development and as the path to inner awareness. She
worked as a singing teacher and organised groups on vocal techniques. |
In these years she shifted her research to diphonic singing (overtones,
two vocal sounds delivered simultaneously) with Giorgio Lombardi and later,
with Bardo Berton.
| 2002
In 2002, having embraced the vision of interior and spiritual growth
of the Master of truth Osho, she created "The
fragrance", an essentially vocal CD, which she sung, composed,
arranged, produced and recorded. |
|

|
| 2005
In 2005 "Tuck & Patti" wrote the cover notes for
her new CD “The Soul” which
Bettanini and Pinna presented at the "Sottolestelle" jazz festival
in Albissola, opening the concert for the American duo. |
| | | | In
2005 her research in the field of jazz music, begun a few years previously,
was put to good use in the recording and producing of the CD "Emotionally,
Mariangela Bettanini" with jazz musicians Dado Moroni, Paolino
Dalla Porta and Enzo Zirilli. |
| | 2006
to the present In 2006 she obtained the certificate
of Voicing® Practitioner with Pratibha de Stoppani and held individual
sessions and group meetings to spread this path of inner awareness, based
on singing real emotions to get in touch with essential inner qualities.
|
From
2006 up to now she has lived several months in New York where she studied
various aspects of jazz with Miles Griffith, Kirk Nurock, Mark Murphy and
where she held her first concert at Enzo's Jazz Club, produced by Enzo Capua.
Since then she has devoted herself to the project "JAZZIN'
some singer songwriters from GENOVA" whose CD was presented
on the 3rd December at the Kitano Hotel, New York.
| In
2009 her inner search led her to Australia for several months, where she
sung devotional songs, spirituals and prayers in various "Celebration
of Love" in Byron Bay. Tribute to MAMA AFRICA, Miriam Makeba,
for Genova's Suq. "Il
Canto del Silenzio", Chanting & Meditation meeting organised by
